It's A Grind is a coffee house concept that opened its doors to the public in Long Beach, CA in 1994 as a brain-child of husband-wife team Marty Cox and Louise Montgomery. Their goal was simple to create a neighborhood living room, a gather place that would separate itself from the competition by being warm, inviting and popular with every part of the social, economic and age strata of the neighborhood. Today, It’s A Grind has over 150 franchisees across the United States most of whom are multiple store developers.

The media has labeled It’s A Grind as, “the non-alcoholic Cheers for the 21st Century.” The coffee house market size is enormous. Seventy-seven percent of all Americans drink premium coffees or blended coffee drinks at least twice a week! In a market that is nearly 4 times larger than fast food, the coffee house industry has only one major nationally recognized name.

While the competition may focus on driving numbers like a drink factory, It's A Grind focuses on creating exceptional customer experiences in their over-sized custom wing back chairs and trendy, cool blues/jazz-themed shops. The incredible cup of coffee at It’s A Grind is merely our way of shaking hands with our customers. They come back 20-30 times a month because they feel welcome, invited and cared for by a staff who knows them, their drink preferences and something about their lives.

It's A Grind realizes that this is a very hip industry to be in. People who are energized by thinking of spending time with their 4000 best friends every month get animated about it! Our franchisees love the customer interaction and the mentoring of their college aged employee team. Executives love the numbers, ease of operation, and multi-unit potential.
